transuranium
Heavier than uranium
Transuranium describes chemical elements with atomic numbers greater than 92, which is uranium's number on the periodic table.
These elements do not occur naturally in significant quantities and must be synthesized in nuclear reactors or particle accelerators.
Plutonium, neptunium, and americium are among the better-known transuranium elements.
Transuranium elements are typically unstable and radioactive.
The term is sometimes spelled as two words or hyphenated: trans-uranium.
