town houses

Narrow urban residences

Town houses (also townhouses or townhomes) are multi-story residences that share walls with neighboring units but have their own entrances.

Unlike apartments, they typically span multiple floors and often include small yards or patios.

The term originally described urban homes of the wealthy, as opposed to their country estates: The duke kept a town house in London.

Now it usually refers to a style of attached housing in suburban developments.
