tisanes

Brewed botanical drinks

Tisanes are herbal infusions—beverages made by steeping herbs, flowers, or other plant materials in hot water.

Unlike tea, which comes specifically from the tea plant, tisanes include chamomile, peppermint, rooibos, and countless other caffeine-free brews: She drinks a tisane before bed to help her sleep.

The word is sometimes used to sound more refined than "herbal tea."
