time control
Game pace regulator
Time control refers to the rules governing how much time each player has to make their moves in a competitive game, especially chess.
Different formats include classical (several hours), rapid (10-60 minutes), and blitz (under 10 minutes).
A time control may also specify increments—additional seconds added after each move—to prevent flagging in won positions.
The tournament uses a 90-minute time control with 30-second increment.
Players who exceed their time control lose on time, regardless of board position.
