the Klondike

Yukon gold region

The Klondike is a region in the Yukon Territory of northwestern Canada, centered around the Klondike River.

It became world-famous during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1896–1899, when the discovery of gold drew tens of thousands of prospectors to the remote and harsh wilderness.

The name now evokes images of frontier hardship, fortune-seeking, and the romanticized North American frontier.

Klondike also refers to a popular form of solitaire card game.
