terraced farming
Sloped land cultivation
Terraced farming is agriculture on sloped land that has been cut into a series of flat steps or platforms.
The terraces prevent soil erosion and allow water to collect rather than run off, making cultivation possible on hillsides that would otherwise be too steep: The rice terraces of the Philippines have been farmed for two thousand years.
