tearooms
Genteel refreshment establishments
Tearooms are establishments serving tea and light refreshments, typically with a genteel or old-fashioned atmosphere: We stopped at a tearoom for scones and clotted cream.
The term also refers, especially in older slang, to public restrooms used as meeting places for anonymous gay sex—a usage that has faded as gay culture has become more open.
