tea tax
Colonial harbor protest
A tea tax is a tax levied on tea, most famously the British duty on tea imported to the American colonies, which sparked the Boston Tea Party in 1773 and helped ignite the American Revolution.
The term sometimes appears in discussions of colonial grievances or taxation without representation: The tea tax became a symbol of British tyranny.
