nark

Underworld tip-giver

A nark is a police informer—someone who reports others' illegal activities to authorities.

The word is British slang, though narc (different spelling) dominates American usage for the same meaning.

To nark on someone is to inform against them: He narked on his mates to avoid jail time.

Separately, to nark means to annoy or irritate: It really narks me when people cut in line.
