tank treads
Armored vehicle belts
Tank treads are the continuous metal or rubber belts that loop around a tank's wheels, distributing the vehicle's weight across a larger surface area than wheels alone would allow.
This design lets tanks traverse mud, sand, snow, and rough terrain without sinking or losing traction.
The same mechanism appears on bulldozers, excavators, and some snowmobiles.
The tank treads left deep impressions in the field.
