tall hats
Stovepipes and shakos
Tall hats are hats with high crowns—top hats, stovepipes, chef's toques, and the like.
The phrase often carries connotations of authority or pretension, since tall hats have historically marked figures of status: magistrates, clergy, dignitaries.
