sympathy strikes
Supporting coworkers' boycott
A sympathy strike is a work stoppage by workers who have no direct dispute with their employer, undertaken to support workers striking elsewhere.
Union members at one company might walk out in solidarity with striking workers at a supplier or in the same industry: Dock workers staged a sympathy strike to support the truckers.
Also called a secondary strike.
Sympathy strikes are legally restricted in many countries.
