Pool's racing corridors
Swimlanes are parallel horizontal or vertical divisions in a diagram, each assigned to a different person, department, or process step.
The term comes from the resemblance to lanes in a swimming pool.
In project management and workflow charts, swimlanes show who is responsible for each task: The swimlane diagram made it clear that approvals were bottlenecking in legal.
The word is business jargon, sometimes spelled as two words.
