swamp culture

Wetland community ways

Swamp culture refers to the customs, folkways, and way of life associated with swampland regions—particularly the Louisiana bayou, Florida Everglades, and similar wetland areas.

It encompasses distinctive traditions in food (crawfish boils, gator meat), music (zydeco, Cajun), architecture (stilt houses), and livelihoods like fishing and trapping.

The term can also be used disparagingly for rural Southern culture perceived as backward or insular: They dismissed the whole region as swamp culture.
