surgeon general warning
Official health caution
A surgeon general warning is an official health advisory issued by a government's chief public health officer, most famously appearing on U.S. cigarette packages since the 1960s: Surgeon General's Warning: Smoking Causes Lung Cancer.
The phrase has become shorthand for any stark cautionary notice about health risks.
Figuratively, it suggests something so obviously harmful it should come with a label: That relationship needs a surgeon general warning.
