supersizing

Going extra large

Supersizing is making something larger, especially upgrading a fast-food order to a bigger portion size.

The term spread from McDonald's promotional campaign in the 1990s.

It now applies broadly to any dramatic scaling up: supersizing your retirement savings, supersizing the military budget.

The practice carries connotations of American excess.
