supersample

Render beyond resolution

Supersample is a technique in computer graphics where an image is rendered at a higher resolution than the final output, then scaled down.

This process smooths jagged edges and improves visual quality by averaging multiple pixel samples into one: The game's antialiasing supersamples at 4x resolution.

The term applies to any oversampling method that captures more data than strictly needed, then reduces it for a cleaner result.
