subtenancy
Lease within lease
A subtenancy is an arrangement where a tenant rents out all or part of their leased property to another person, called a subtenant.
The original tenant remains responsible to the landlord under the primary lease while simultaneously acting as landlord to the subtenant.
Subtenancies are common in residential and commercial settings but may be restricted or prohibited by the original lease agreement.
The lease explicitly forbade subtenancy without written consent from the property owner.
