strike votes
Workers authorize walkouts
Strike votes are formal ballots in which union members decide whether to authorize a work stoppage.
A successful strike vote doesn't necessarily mean workers will walk out—it often serves as leverage in negotiations, signaling to management that members are prepared to stop working if demands aren't met.
The union announced that 94 percent voted yes in the strike vote.
