independent church
Self-governing religious body
An independent church is a Christian congregation that operates autonomously, without affiliation to a denomination or governing body.
Such churches set their own doctrine, select their own leadership, and manage their own affairs: They left the Presbyterian church to start an independent church.
The term often signals evangelical or nondenominational identity.
