standardbreds

Sulky-pulling horse breed

Standardbreds are a breed of horse developed in North America primarily for harness racing, where they pull a driver in a two-wheeled cart called a sulky.

The name comes from the speed standard horses had to meet for registration.

Standardbreds are known for their calm temperament and two distinct racing gaits: trotting and pacing.

The standardbreds warmed up on the track before the evening races.
