squelcher
One who quashes
A squelcher is a person or thing that squelches—suppresses, silences, or crushes something.
A cutting remark can be a squelcher, ending debate: Her response was the ultimate squelcher.
In electronics, a squelcher (or squelch circuit) automatically mutes audio output when no signal is present, eliminating static between transmissions on radios and walkie-talkies.
