sport climbing
Bolted rock climbing
Sport climbing is rock climbing on routes equipped with permanent anchors—metal bolts drilled into the rock for protection.
Unlike traditional climbing, where climbers place and remove their own gear, sport climbers clip into pre-placed bolts as they ascend.
The style emphasizes athletic difficulty over route-finding or gear placement: She's been sport climbing at the local crag all summer.
Sport climbing became an Olympic event in 2020.
