table-turning
Ghostly table movement
Table-turning is a séance technique where participants sit around a table with hands placed flat on its surface, waiting for the table to move, tilt, or rotate—supposedly through spirit influence.
Popular in Victorian spiritualism, the movements were attributed to contact with the dead.
The phenomenon is now understood as unconscious muscular movements by participants.
