Speedwriting is a method of rapid note-taking that uses abbreviations and simplified letter forms rather than the elaborate symbols of traditional shorthand.
Developed in the early twentieth century, it was marketed as easier to learn than Gregg or Pitman shorthand because it uses the regular alphabet.
The term also describes any fast writing technique: Her speedwriting was barely legible but captured every point. (Capitalized Speedwriting was a trademarked system.)
