speed square

Rafter angle tool

A speed square is a triangular measuring tool used in carpentry, combining the functions of a try square, miter square, and protractor.

The right-triangle shape allows quick marking of 90° and 45° angles, and the ruled edges help measure and mark rafters, stairs, and other angled cuts: He used a speed square to mark the roof pitch.

Also called a rafter square or triangle square.
