Space cadets is the plural of space cadet, slang for someone who seems disconnected from reality—dreamy, absent-minded, or perpetually distracted.
The term evokes someone whose mind has drifted into outer space: Half the meeting was lost on the space cadets in the back row.
It can also refer to someone whose thinking seems impaired, as if spaced out on drugs.
