anything

No matter what

Anything is the sum of its parts: any thing.

It is a pronoun or a noun that can stand in place of any noun, except a noun that designates a person (in which case you use anyone or anybody).

Anything can stand for both concrete and abstract nouns: Do you need anything from the supermarket?

There wasn’t anything wrong with him when I saw him.

Anything is typically used in questions and in negations instead of something.

Anything has a minor role as an intensifying adverb in the phrase anything like: The hotel wasn’t anything like the one we stayed in last year.
