Soft water is water with low mineral content, particularly low in calcium and magnesium.
It lathers soap easily and leaves no scale deposits in pipes or kettles.
Water is naturally soft in some regions, or can be softened by treatment: We installed a water softener because the hard water was ruining our fixtures.
The opposite is hard water.
