snow shed
Protective alpine passage
A snow shed is a protective structure built over a railroad track or roadway in mountainous terrain to shield it from avalanches and heavy snowfall.
These elongated tunnels or roofed passages allow snow to slide over the top rather than burying the route below: The train passed through a series of wooden snow sheds in the Rockies.
