smooth-hound

Coastal bottom-dwelling shark

A smooth-hound is a small shark of the family Triakidae, found in temperate coastal waters.

Unlike many sharks, smooth-hounds have flat teeth suited for crushing shellfish rather than tearing flesh.

They're considered harmless to humans and are sometimes caught for food: We landed a smooth-hound off the pier.
