slip knots

Easily released bindings

A slip knot is a knot that tightens when pulled and loosens when the end is tugged—the loop slides along the rope.

Slip knots are used in fishing, knitting, and anywhere a quickly adjustable or releasable loop is needed: She started the scarf with a slip knot on her needle.

Also written as one word: slipknot.
