sleep apnoea

Nocturnal airway obstruction

Sleep apnoea is a disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep.

The most common form, obstructive sleep apnoea, occurs when throat muscles relax and block the airway.

Symptoms include loud snoring, gasping awake, and daytime fatigue.

Severe cases require treatment with a CPAP machine that maintains airflow.
