hypersomnia
Pathological excessive sleepiness
Hypersomnia is excessive sleepiness or prolonged sleep episodes beyond what's normal.
Unlike ordinary tiredness, hypersomnia persists despite adequate rest—someone might sleep twelve hours and still struggle to stay awake during the day.
It can be a disorder itself or a symptom of depression, neurological conditions, or medication side effects: The doctor suspected hypersomnia when she reported sleeping fourteen hours a night.
