slapback
Bounced-back sound effect
Slapback is an audio effect producing a single, quick echo—typically 75 to 250 milliseconds after the original sound.
It creates the distinctive "doubled" vocal sound prominent in 1950s rockabilly and early rock and roll: They added slapback to give the track that vintage Sun Records feel.
The term comes from the sound seeming to slap back at the listener.
