skyjackers

Airborne hostage takers

Skyjackers are people who hijack aircraft, typically by threatening violence to force pilots to divert to a different destination or meet demands.

The term combines sky with hijacker.

Skyjacking was particularly common in the 1960s and 70s, when security screening was minimal: The skyjackers demanded to be flown to Cuba.
