skipjack tuna

Small canned tuna

Skipjack tuna is a smaller species of tuna found in tropical and warm-temperate waters worldwide.

It's the most commercially harvested tuna, forming the bulk of canned tuna products.

Skipjack have dark longitudinal stripes on their bellies and rarely exceed 25 pounds.

The name comes from their habit of leaping or skipping across the water's surface when feeding.
