silk screens
Porous printing frames
Silk screens are frames with fine mesh stretched across them, used in printmaking to transfer ink onto surfaces.
The technique, also called screen printing or serigraphy, works by blocking areas of the mesh so ink passes through only where desired.
Artists and commercial printers use silk screens to produce posters, T-shirts, and fine art prints.
As a verb, to silk-screen is to print using this method: We silk-screened the band's logo onto five hundred shirts.
