showband

Live entertainment act

A showband is a large, highly theatrical marching band that emphasizes entertainment over traditional military-style precision.

Common at American college football games, showbands incorporate dance moves, elaborate formations, and crowd interaction: The halftime showband had the whole stadium on its feet.

The term also refers to Irish dance bands of the 1960s that performed covers and original songs at ballrooms across Ireland and Britain.
