shortlines
Brief poetic lines
Shortlines are small railroad companies that operate limited routes, typically serving local areas or connecting remote locations to major rail networks.
They often run on track abandoned by larger railroads: The grain elevator ships by shortline to the Union Pacific junction.
The term also applies to short segments of fishing line or rope.
