shooting up
Injecting into veins
Shooting up has two main meanings.
In drug slang, it means injecting drugs intravenously: He started shooting up heroin at seventeen.
The other sense describes rapid upward movement—a child shooting up in height, prices shooting up overnight, a plant shooting up toward the light: The stock shot up thirty percent after the announcement.
