shock rock
Deliberately offensive genre
Shock rock is a style of rock music that emphasizes theatrically transgressive or provocative stage performances—fake blood, macabre costumes, simulated violence, or sacrilegious imagery.
The music itself matters less than the spectacle designed to outrage or unsettle audiences.
Artists like Alice Cooper, GWAR, and Marilyn Manson are associated with the genre: His shock rock antics got the show banned in three states.
