snuff films
Filmed real killings
A snuff film is a movie purportedly depicting an actual murder, made for entertainment or profit.
The concept emerged in the 1970s as urban legend and moral panic, though documented cases of commercially distributed genuine snuff films remain essentially nonexistent.
The term now extends to any recorded killing: The cartel's execution videos are basically snuff films.
Not to be confused with films that merely depict realistic fictional violence.
