sensory room
Therapeutic stimulus environment
A sensory room is a specially designed space filled with equipment that stimulates the senses—lights, textures, sounds, and sometimes scents.
Originally developed for people with autism, dementia, or developmental disabilities, sensory rooms help regulate arousal levels, reduce anxiety, and encourage exploration.
They appear in schools, therapy centers, hospitals, and increasingly in airports and workplaces: The school installed a sensory room where overstimulated students can decompress.
