Semiconscious describes a state between full awareness and unconsciousness—groggy, only partially responsive to surroundings.
Someone semiconscious after a head injury or coming out of anesthesia may hear voices but struggle to respond coherently: She was semiconscious, mumbling but unable to open her eyes.
