oversedation
Excessive drug-induced sleepiness
Oversedation is excessive sedation—when someone has been given too much sedative medication, resulting in dangerously depressed consciousness, breathing, or reflexes.
The term appears primarily in medical contexts: The patient showed signs of oversedation after surgery.
It can result from medication errors, drug interactions, or individual sensitivity to sedatives.
