self-estrangement

Lost sense of self

Self-estrangement is a feeling of disconnection from oneself—from one's emotions, values, or sense of identity.

The term appears in psychology and philosophy to describe states where a person feels alienated from their own experiences or unable to recognize themselves in their actions: Years of compromising left him with a profound sense of self-estrangement.

Marx used it to describe workers separated from meaningful labor.
