scuttled
Sank one's own
Scuttled is the past tense of scuttle, which has two distinct meanings.
To scuttle is to move with quick, hurried steps—a scurrying motion suggesting haste or furtiveness: The crab scuttled across the sand, He scuttled out of the room.
Separately, to scuttle a ship is to sink it deliberately by opening holes in the hull, often to prevent capture.
This extends to deliberately destroying or abandoning any plan or enterprise: The scandal scuttled his presidential campaign, Budget cuts scuttled the project.
