sculptresses
Women shaping stone
Sculptresses is the plural of sculptress, a female artist who creates sculpture.
The word follows the older pattern of adding -ess to mark feminine occupations (actress, waitress), though sculptor now serves for artists of any gender.
The exhibition featured works by three sculptresses of the Art Deco period.
