scoping
Checking the range
Scoping is the process of determining boundaries or extent.
In project management, scoping defines what work will and won't be included: We're still scoping the project.
In programming, scoping refers to where variables are accessible in code.
Informally, to be scoping something is to be checking it out or sizing it up: He was scoping the competition.
